I need just USD 900 to do the basic job, I am planning to build Musix GNU+Linux 4.0 in just 1 month of hard work.

When I founded Musix GNU + Linux in 2004, the Argentine country was coming out of a terrible economic crisis and I was quite unoccupied, mainly because I had no family yet, nor car, didnt own a house, no expensive bills to pay month to month and so. My main job in Musix was to master the distro (I spent days and nights there, focusing only on that), receiving bug reports and solving them, asking in the mailing lists for suggestions, managing the wiki (I’ve written endless documentation together to other collaborators), to advertise in distrowatch, to carry out talks in all the country and other activities.

Years passed, several collaborators joined the project (Argentina, Brazil, Spain, USA, etc.), and even there were versions that were possible only thanks to them.
For many years, the UTUTO project donated hosting, Free Sosftware Foundation supported us politically and some users made donations. Musix is 100% free as in freedom!

But now things have changed a lot: the collaborators mailing lists and users are very quiet, 3 years have passed since the last version 3.0.1, we have made almost no progress for a Musix GNU + Linux 4.0 and I do not see that it would be possible to do a new version based on Debian Jessie (https://www.debian.org/releases/jessie/) if I do not get to work on Musix 100% of my working time.

I think that in a month of hard work 100% concentrated in Musix I could have a version 4.0 with good utilities to produce music, sound, video, graphic design, etc., leaving aside my current daily works, and paying attention only to this .

My idea is to receive donations worth between USD 900 and USD 1200, I do not think it would be neither expensive nor crazy, it would even be easy for Europeans or North Americans to pay that amount … with 4 people contributing USD 225 would already be guaranteed the production of the new version. It’s the money I need to pay all my bills for 1 month and not take on any other job.

Propuesta para producir una nueva versión en 2017 (Musix GNU+Linux 4.0)

¿La utopía está de vuelta?

Cuando fundé Musix GNU+Linux en 2004, el país argentino estaba saliendo de una crisis económica espantosa y yo estaba bastante desocupado, sobre todo por el hecho de que no tenía familia aún ni auto/coche, ni casa propia, ni cuentas caras que pagar mes a mes. Mi trabajo principal en Musix era masterizar la distro (pasaba días y noches en eso, concentrado solamente en eso), recibir reportes de bugs y resolverlos, preguntar en las listas de mail por sugerencias, administrar el wiki (he escrito un sinfín de documentación junto a otros colaboradores), hacer propaganda en distrowatch, realizar charlas en todo el país y demás.

Los años pasaron, se sumaron varios colaboradores al proyecto (argentina, brasil, españa, etc.), e incluso hubo versiones que fueron posibles solamente gracias a ellos.

Durante muchos años, el proyecto UTUTO donó alojamiento, Free Software Foundation nos apoyó políticamente y algunos usuarios hicieron donaciones. ¡Musix es 100% software libre!

Pero ahora la cosa cambió bastante: las listas de mail de colaboradores y usuarios están muy quietas, pasaron 3 años desde la última versión 3.0.1, no hemos hecho casi ningún avance para una Musix GNU+Linux 4.0 y no veo que sea posible hacer una nueva versión basada en Debian Jessie (https://www.debian.org/releases/jessie/) si no me aboco 100% a trabajar en Musix.

Pienso que en un mes de trabajo duro 100% concentrado en Musix podría tener lista una versión 4.0 con buenas utilidades para producir música, sonido, video, diseño gráfico, etc., dejando de lado mis trabajos cotidianos actuales, y prestando atención solamente a esto.

Mi idea es recibir donaciones por el valor entre USD 900 y USD 1200 , no me parece ni caro ni disparatado, incluso sería fácil para los europeos o estadounidenses pagar esa suma… con 4 personas que aporten USD 225 ya estaría garantizada la producción de la nueva versión. Es el dinero que necesito para pagar todas mis cuentas durante 1 mes y no ocuparme de ningún otro trabajo.

Musix v3.0.1 en los medios

Hemos tenido unas semanas bastante movidas en cuanto a aparición en los medios. Puedes leer entradas y noticias internacionales que se hacen eco del nuevo lanzamiento de actualización de la V3, Musix v3.0.1:

Repositorios en Musix GNU+Linux

El estado de los repositorios actualmente para Musix GNU+Linux

 

Estos son los repositorios que tendría que tener un usuario por defecto:

Con eso se filtra el software no-libre y se accede al de
contribuciones (el último).

Para wheezy por ahora hay solamente:

Que es un backport. Todo lo demás es antiguo para squeeze.

The development team of Musix GNU+Linux is proud to present version 3.0.1 Stable. This is a bugfix release related to installation fail due to lack of grub package. Also, now the ISO image is isohybrid, ie support boot from USB or DVD media.

For this version of the installable Live DVD/USB Stable we added some video editors like kdenlive 0.9.6, avidemux and cinelerra, added french and serbian language support, openoffice, solved some minor KDE desktop bugs… Musix 3.0 boots by default in LXDE, but you can choose the tailored KDE and IceWM desktops or the original fluxbox and openbox; os-probe was installed to detect other systems during HD installation. The Kernel 3.4.14-gnu-RT23 is compiled from linux-libre kernel source and deblobed to be 100% free as well as all software in Musix and operates in real time for audio and music production. Installation

The recommended method is burning a DVD and install from there. If you dont have a DVD device and only can boot from USB pendrive you need to:

1) copy the ISO image to the USB memory:

cat file.iso > /dev/sdX

…usually /dev/sdb [warning, this will erase all your files on that device]

2) sync

(to flush  kernel filesystem buffers) and

3) just reboot from the USB pendrive and choose install.

Or refer to Debian installation for USB.

Known bugs from RC1 solved in RC2 and Stable:

There were some annoying bugs that didnt prevent use Musix at its true potential, these were: KDE warning about the loss of avant-window-navigator, the demos do not work from the LXDE menu because musixstarter not find the file «~ /. jackdrc «, KDE doesnt launch a network manager (nm-applet) at the start by default but is installed on the system, sudo does not work for graphic apps into Xorg (xhost +local:root), and some icons such as audacious2.desktop are ‘broken’; os-probe was needed to detect other Operating Systems during HD install: all these bugs were  corrected for the RC2 and Stable version.

There is the next Musix version masterized by Daniel Vidal, based on new kernels:

Reorganización de Musix: hacia Musix 3.0

Tras una temporada de revisión e introspección, el equipo de Musix se dispone a realizar una importante reorganización interna.

 
Una de las razones que nos han motivado a ello ha sido la optimización de recursos y su administración, de manera que el equipo pueda volcarse más en el propio desarrollo de Musix y algo menos en la administración y gestión de los recursos de infraestructura que se necesitan.
Al mismo tiempo aprovechamos para dar un nuevo paso adelante más hacia el desarrollo comunitario libre, acorde con la filosofía del proyecto.

 
Este nuevo blog, de momento digamos «en construcción», será una pieza importante de esta nueva arquitectura interna. Aquí publicaremos noticias y comentarios sobre el proyecto y también otro tipo de artículos. Puedes visitarlo directamente o suscribirte al canal RSS para estar al tanto de los avances.

 
Desde el equipo de Musix queremos agradecer enormemente el apoyo y ánimos que hemos recibido de los usuarios para continuar con este proyecto.
