Download from najval: MUSIX_GNU+Linux_3.0.1stable.iso (md5)
The development team of Musix GNU+Linux is proud to present version 3.0.1 Stable. This is a bugfix release related to installation fail due to lack of grub package. Also, now the ISO image is isohybrid, ie support boot from USB or DVD media.
For this version of the installable Live DVD/USB Stable we added some video editors like kdenlive 0.9.6, avidemux and cinelerra, added french and serbian language support, openoffice, solved some minor KDE desktop bugs… Musix 3.0 boots by default in LXDE, but you can choose the tailored KDE and IceWM desktops or the original fluxbox and openbox; os-probe was installed to detect other systems during HD installation. The Kernel 3.4.14-gnu-RT23 is compiled from linux-libre kernel source and deblobed to be 100% free as well as all software in Musix and operates in real time for audio and music production. For a full list of installed software, please see: package_list3.0.1stable.txt
Special mention to the developers Ariel Errera, Carlos Sanchiavedraz, Gilberto Borges, Daniel Vidal, Javier Llorente, Pablo Sastre, Pablo Lozano, Jose Vazquez Viader, Suso Comesaña, Mariano Ibaldi, Claudio Caldas, Martin Carr and Jacobo Najera (sorry if forget someone) to have accompanied the project during this 2013 and 2014 even with wide swings and the low availability of free time.
Musix GNU+Linux 3.0 is based on Debian GNU/Linux 7.2 «Wheezy»

Installation
The recommended method is burning a DVD and install from there. If you dont have a DVD device and only can boot from USB pendrive you need to:
1) copy the ISO image to the USB memory:
cat file.iso > /dev/sdX
…usually /dev/sdb [warning, this will erase all your files on that device]
2) sync
(to flush kernel filesystem buffers) and
3) just reboot from the USB pendrive and choose install.
Or refer to Debian installation for USB.
Known bugs from RC1 solved in RC2 and Stable:
There were some annoying bugs that didnt prevent use Musix at its true potential, these were: KDE warning about the loss of avant-window-navigator, the demos do not work from the LXDE menu because musixstarter not find the file «~ /. jackdrc «, KDE doesnt launch a network manager (nm-applet) at the start by default but is installed on the system, sudo does not work for graphic apps into Xorg (xhost +local:root), and some icons such as audacious2.desktop are ‘broken’; os-probe was needed to detect other Operating Systems during HD install: all these bugs were corrected for the RC2 and Stable version.
TESTING version
There is the next Musix version masterized by Daniel Vidal, based on new kernels:

(you can also boot in english, portuguese, french or serbian)

Does it work on Macbook? Does it work with the efi boot?
Hello, Darkadlove. For now we have no report on Musix on Macbooks. It would be very much appreciated any information regarding that matter.
What is used to replace QLAB as I am a sound guy and would like to know what can the industry use. thanks for your time. I am going to install to a VM to see what you all got here.

Hi Bob, you can do some search about alternatives, i.e. here:
http://freealt.wikispot.org/
http://freealts.com/
Let us know in the users list in english, there maybe we can help some more if you describe those programs and what their for.
Seems interesting, but I get a CPU detection error (failed) either on live mode (any of them) nor after installation (tried all of them). My config is:
Gigabyte F2A75M-D3H // AMD A8-K5600 // 16GB RAM // PCI-E ATI X550 // WD 160 GB
Please help!
P.S. Could you please write the list of music software and plugins included in this release.
Thanks
Hi, are you able to run a Debian stable on this PC?
I downloaded debian-live-7.5.0-amd64-kde-desktop.iso and everything works.
Any suggesions?
Musix 3 is i386, so would it be possible to release a version on amd64 debian?
A torrent for 3.0.1?
On past releases we had, but for the moment not for v3.0.1. You can start to seed v3.0.1 if you happen to download.
despues de introducir user y pass live me aparece user@musix y se bloquea la instalación
gracias y un saludo

is there any musix changelog’s available ?
Hello dikasp.
There’s no proper Changelog text file for last release, I’m afraid. On pasts versions we did have at least some kind of a track for upgrades.
Regards.
and there is 2 musix testing version http://linuxfreedom.com/musix/download.html where is the latest ? the rc2 or TEST version ?
Hi again,
Musix_GNU+Linux_3.0TEST.iso is a test for an ongoing 64 bit version, it doesn’t comes with all the usual Musix desktop tweaking.
RC2 is an older version.
hi C. sanchiavedraZ what architecture will be for next musix version, move to amd64 or still in 1386 ?
Hi.
Hopefully 64 bit will come, but nothing for sure at the moment. It’ll depend on the resources (people and spare time mainly) we can have for this next release.
Regards
I loaded musix onto a PC and entered username–user, password—live and it seemed to work OK. But nothing would save. If I saved something, it would be gone next time I logged on. Also, how do I become a super user? Thanks.
Hi, if you just loaded the Live-CD or DVD, it would not be so easy to sabe data, but if you installed musix onto HD, you should be 100% able to do it.
Super user:
sudo su
I’m at a loss. I’m considering switching from Windows to Linux, but haven’t had much luck. I have Windows 8, I loaded MUSIX_GNU+Linux_3.0.1_Stable.iso from harddrive into Oracle VM VirtualBox to try Linux. I open it with username «user» and password «live». It seems to run but not really. Any files or directories I make disappear when I shutdown. I can run «sudo su» and it seems to work even though I get message «sudo: unable to resolve host musix». I use useradd to add new users, but they too disappear upon shutting down. File etc/fstab is empty so I can’t connect to a USB drive or CD drive. Pretty worthless. Am I missing some little thing? Is this a demo? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Excuse my ignorance. This OS is free or there is a cost. If so, what is the price? The software that comes installed Do you have to pay for them? Thank you
Hi, es libre, totally free in both senses: free of charge, and free as in freedom
Are the editing software installed on the OS as well?
I’m totally new to this, thank you very much for the help.
